Learner journeys

Every learner starts somewhere different. These journeys show how we shape lessons around three common starting points.

ADULT BEGINNER

Returning to the Qur’an after many years

An adult who learned to read as a child but stopped, and now feels unsure and a little embarrassed to recite aloud.

Where the journey began

Reads slowly, confuses similar letters such as ح and هـ, and avoids reciting in front of others.

How the lessons unfold
  1. First conversation

A relaxed first conversation to hear them recite — no test, no judgement.

  2. Building foundations

Makharij first: rebuilding each letter’s sound, with special attention to throat letters.

  3. Steady practice

Short daily practice sheets, with one or two sounds to focus on at a time.

  4. Growing confidence

Reciting short surahs to the teacher, with gentle correction.

Where the journey is heading

Reads short surahs with correct letter sounds, understands the core Tajweed rules, and — most importantly — feels comfortable reciting aloud again.

YOUTH

A teenager who wants to recite with confidence

A teenager who reads fluently but has never studied Tajweed rules formally, and would like to recite confidently in front of family and at the mosque.

Where the journey began

Reads quickly with some rules applied by ear, but is unsure when to lengthen, merge or stop.

  4. Growing confidence

A young child taking their very first steps

A young child, supported by a parent, who is just beginning to learn the Arabic letters.

Where the journey began

Knows a few letters by sight, has a short attention span, and needs lessons to feel fun.
