Helping your child build a love for the Qur’an

أطفال

Parents often ask how to help their children keep going with the Qur’an. The answer is rarely “more hours”. It is usually a small, steady habit, surrounded by warmth.

Little and often

Young children learn best in short sessions. A few minutes every day builds more than a long lesson once a week — and it keeps the Qur’an a normal, happy part of the day.

Make it part of family life

  • Same time, same place. A regular time, such as after a daily prayer or before bed, helps it become a habit.
  • Listen together. Play recitation in the car or at home. Children absorb sounds long before they read them.
  • Recite together. Let your child hear you practising too. Your example says more than any instruction.

Praise effort, not only results

Notice the trying: “You worked hard on that letter today.” Children who feel safe making mistakes keep coming back. Avoid comparing them with siblings or classmates.

Stories bring meaning

Sharing the stories of the Qur’an at an age-appropriate level helps children connect what they recite with what it means. Meaning builds love.

Choose a gentle teacher

A child’s early experience with a teacher can shape how they feel about the Qur’an for years. Look for patience, encouragement and clear communication with you as a parent.

Our Kids Qur’an program is built around these principles — stories, games and guided recitation, at a pace that suits your child. Tell us about your child and we will suggest a starting point.
